Frequently Asked Questions

The RTD process is a federally mandated program for CDL drivers who have violated DOT drug and alcohol rules. It involves evaluation by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), education or treatment, follow-up evaluation and a return to duty test before you can drive commercially again.
Most drivers are scheduled within 24-48 hours. I work with testing facilities nationwide to find the quickest available appointment near you.
The $165 covers the drug test and my TPA services. If your SAP requires an alcohol test in addition to the drug test, there is a $50 charge for the additional test. No payment is made at the testing site.
Most drivers are cleared within 2–5 business days after completing their follow-up test. We process same-day when possible.
No. The entire process is handled online, except for your actual drug/alcohol test at a certified local collection site, which we arrange near you.
With over 3,000 testing locations nationwide, we can find a facility within reasonable driving distance.
If you fail the RTD test, you’ll need to go back to your SAP for additional treatment before attempting another test. I’ll guide you through this process if needed.
Yes. We serve CDL drivers in all 50 states. We'll locate a certified collection site near you regardless of where you are.
Yes. We are available 7 days a week. Submit your form any day and expect to hear from James the same day when submitted by 2PM ET.
Even if you are already registered as a driver, DOT requires you to re-register as an owner-operator (employer) to start your Return-to-Duty drug test. This is because only an employer account can select a C/TPA to send you for testing. This is a one-time step and does not affect your current login. After you select James Shea, LPC as your C/TPA, you will not need to use the owner-operator account again.
No. DOT rules do not allow follow-up testing until you are working in a CDL job. The only exception is if you are a true owner-operator with your own truck, a DOT number, and are properly registered in the Clearinghouse. Any follow-up test taken while not working will not count and could cause problems if you are audited.
